On June ۳, ۲۰۲۵, Bangladesh Bank officially announced the release of a new series of banknotes featuring updated designs and advanced anti-counterfeit technologies. The move is aimed at strengthening the security of the national currency and reflecting the evolving economic identity of Bangladesh.
Enhanced Security: The new banknotes include holographic strips, microtext, color-shifting inks, and tactile markings for the visually impaired.
Updated Design Elements: National heritage sites, cultural icons, and digital-era motifs are featured, blending tradition with modernity.
Digital Authentication: A companion mobile app will help merchants and citizens verify authenticity using QR scanning and light sensitivity checks.
The old series of notes, introduced over a decade ago, has seen rising instances of forgery. The updated currency series aims to build public trust and safeguard transactions as digital and cash economies continue to coexist in Bangladesh.
The new notes will be released in phases starting from June ۱۰, ۲۰۲۵, beginning with the Tk ۱۰۰۰ and Tk ۵۰۰ denominations. Smaller denominations will follow later in the year.
Initial reactions on social media have been largely positive, with citizens praising the fresh design. However, some have raised concerns about usability in rural areas where awareness about high-tech features may be low.
The redesign of Bangladesh’s banknotes signals a broader move towards modernization in public finance. With added security and symbolic cultural representations, these notes aim to bridge the gap between legacy trust and future readiness.
